Coverity, Inc., the company integrity software, announced that the co-founder has been awarded Dawson Engler with the Grace Murray Hopper Award from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for his pioneering research on automated verification program that identifies defects in complex software.

In appointing Dr. Engler for this award, ACM noted that, "Dawson Engler introduced and developed techniques powerful and practical tools for program analysis that automatically detects errors in the code. These methods have been widely used to check large complex software systems, exposing many hidden defects. Dr. Engler earth, insightful and practical approach to automated program verification has inspired several other initiatives and tools for finding problems in complex software systems. "

The Grace Hopper Award Murray is awarded to outstanding young computer professional of the year, selected on the basis of a single recent major technical or service contribution. This award is accompanied by a prize of $ 35,000, which is provided by Google. The candidate must have been 35 years of age or younger at the time of the contribution of the rating is made.

"On behalf of the research groups at Stanford and Coverity is an honor to accept the prestigious ACM Grace Murray Hopper, â € said Dawson Engler, associate professor of computer science and electrical engineering at Stanford University, Coverity and co-founder. â € œThe field of effective error detection has skyrocketed in the last decade, and itâ € ™ s my hope that we can perform a similar magnitude of improvement in the next ten years. For too long, the penetration of computing has led to the same story: The software is everywhere, but all software is likely to hit, so everything is prone to crashing. I think we're on the right trajectory to deliver a credible means of ending this story costly, so that finally developers can focus on building software rather than the failures of firefighting.

Dr. Engler helped lead the creation of the technology behind Coverity € ™ s system analysis software from Stanford University with the co-founders of Coverity Ben Chelf, Andy Chou and Seth Hallem still rising Coverity € ™ s precisely the source code analysis capabilities. Dr. Engler remains on the faculty at Stanford and continues Coverity advisor. Today, more than 600 customers rely on Coverity to ensure the integrity of their applications.

â € œThe Grace Murray Hopper award is very impressive, especially given the fact that previous winners include innovators such as Steve Wozniak, Don Knuth and Richard Stallman, â € Said Seth Hallem, co-founder and CEO of Coverity. â € œDawson remains an integral part of helping shape the technological underpinning Coverity integrity of our software strategy. In the name of Coverity's employees, customers and partners to congratulate him on his recognition.â €
